    Services we offer

Lambeth CLC will provide training and projects free of charge to Lambeth schools. A timetable of training is available in the What We Offer section of the site

Partnerships: The CLC can facilitate school projects by offering partnerships with professional organisations like the BBC, the BFI, the Hayward Gallery or the Philharmonia Orchestra. The CLC works with many professionals across the Arts, such as film-makers, animators and musicians to bring industry expertise (and experience) into education projects.

Examples of projects for this year are:

Film-making with primaries to celebrate Black History Month.

Trinity Arts award with refugee pupils

Data logging training and loan of classroom kits for secondary maths teachers

Lego Mindstorm sessions in schools, and loans of Pro Bot and Bee Bot classroom packs to primaries

Options Extra: part of the re-engagement programme for Year 10s, offering a day a week over the year to learn about film technology

Accredited training with TAs in ICT, from using a camera, through Smartboards, to animation

Podcasting from nursery to secondary. Learning to use audio recording to build a range of broadcast newsletters, dramas, and performances across the web (also accredited for school staff)

Click here to see last year's projects.

Schools will also be approached as new projects - particularly with partner organisations such as Adobe, Steljes, the Royal Festival Hall or Nike - arise.

Staff can contact Lambeth CLC with ideas for projects or programmes they would like support with, or requests for equipment loan by e-mailing timjacques@lambethclc.org.uk

    Regular support includes

Training sessions for staff. Training sessions for classes and groups, either as one-off sessions or over extended periods for more in-depth projects.

We will be helping schools with the new Self-Review Framework as part of working towards the ICT Mark (or not! As schools prefer.). Staff at the CLC have been trained by Becta to support towards assessment of the mark, and one of the team can come to the school to work with your staff on working out the best strategy for this.

Read here for more information about the Framework.

    Demonstrations

The CLC works in partnership with suppliers to introduce new technology to schools. Let us know of any ICT software or hardware you may be interested in and we will set up a demonstration for schools. This kind of arrangement also often allows for discounted bulk buying.

    Equipment Loan

See our list of equipment for resources (together with staff support) that can be delivered to schools.

What’s New, Interesting or just worth checking out?

    Chroma Key Technology

Chroma Key was once described as ‘blue screen’ filming, to indicate filming done against a blue background which was later replaced by a superimposed image (weather forecasters had to throw out their blue suits or risk appearing invisible). This technology has now been superceded by the use of a new a material, chromatte, that looks grey to the naked eye. For a detailed explanation visit http://www.planetdv.net/Content/Chroma_Keying.asp.

The kit we offer comprises a camera with LED ring, chromatte backdrop, microphones, headsets, camera viewfinders, a vision mixer which allows real-time output to the internet and a projector or video.

Projects which made use of this technology include the BBC School Report, where Year 8 pupils were filmed against a backdrop of pre-recorded images as roving reporters.

During another innovative project, primary school pupils have taken images of body organs and superimposed them onto shaped pieces of chroma-key material stuck on t-shirts. They have then given filmed presentations of where to find the heart, which was projected onto their t-shirts underneath their school sweatshirts.

Secondary pupils also filmed geography sessions, presenting information from remote locations such as the Amazon, the Galapagos and the Caribbean. A great way to take pupils out of the school without having to move!

Smart and NEC are among various companies bringing out new projectors that sit above the whiteboard, projecting down onto the screen.
